Tata working on mid-life update of the Nexon

Amidst rising competition, Tata Motors is leaving no stone unturned to keep its products fresh and competitive. An updated Nexon was recently spotted testing. It is now confirmed that the carmaker is working to offer some upgrades on its sub-compact SUV.

As seen on the test mule images which surfaced online, the Tata Nexon gets some noticeable changes which are concentrated to the interior. The updated model gets a new flat-bottom steering wheel which is also seen in the upcoming Tata Altroz. Cruise control buttons are also visible on the steering wheel, which indicates that the top variants of the updated Nexon will get the feature. The Nexon is the only sub-4m SUV which does not get a cruise control right now.

The exteriors of the car remain unchanged. It is expected that with this mid-life update, Tata may also provide BS6 compliant engines in the Nexon. Right now, the Nexon gets two engine options. First is a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which produces 110 PS of power and 170 NM of torque. The second engine is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine which makes segment-leading 110 PS and 260 Nm of torque. Both of these engines are available with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed AMT.

Tata Motors recently made it official that it is working on four new electric vehicles including an electric Nexon. It is expected that the electric Nexon will share its powertrain with the upcoming Altroz EV. The electric Nexon will be available next year.
