Volkswagen ID Polo Front

Volkswagen has unveiled the ID Polo, marking the first all-electric version of its long-running Polo hatchback. Built on the brand’s updated MEB+ platform, the new model is set to open for pre-orders in international markets from late April 2026, with pricing expected to start below €25,000 (approximately Rs. 27.7 lakhs).

The ID Polo introduces Volkswagen’s new “Pure Positive” design approach, combining familiar hatchback proportions with modern EV styling cues. Up front, it features connected LED lighting elements and an illuminated logo, while the rear gets a full-width light bar and a more sculpted bumper design. The silhouette remains compact, though sportier touches like flared arches and larger alloy wheels—up to 19 inches—add visual presence.

Inside, the cabin adopts a clean, tech-focused layout. A 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system takes centre stage, paired with a 10-inch digital driver display. The dashboard integrates a mix of touch-based and physical controls, while the floating centre console provides storage along with wireless charging and connectivity ports. Equipment levels include dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting and driver assistance features such as adaptive cruise control.

Volkswagen is also offering optional upgrades like a premium audio system, panoramic glass roof and electrically adjustable front seats with memory and massage functions. Practicality remains a key focus, with boot space rated at 441 litres, expandable to over 1,200 litres with the rear seats folded.

Powertrain options include two battery configurations. The entry-level 37kWh pack is paired with a front-mounted electric motor producing up to 135 HP, delivering a claimed range of 329 km. It supports DC fast charging, enabling a 10–80 percent charge in just over 20 minutes under optimal conditions.

Higher variants feature a larger 52kWh battery, producing up to 211 HP and offering a claimed driving range of 454 km. This version also supports faster charging speeds, with similar rapid charging times. Volkswagen has additionally confirmed a performance-oriented GTI variant, expected to produce around 226hp.

While the ID Polo represents a significant step in electrifying one of Volkswagen’s most recognisable nameplates, its long-term success will likely depend on pricing, charging infrastructure and market readiness for compact electric hatchbacks in different regions.
