Volkswagen has revealed their XL sized SUV concept T-Prime GTE in China that has big dimensions and is intended to be positioned above the Volkswagen Touareg in the German company’s SUV lineup.

At the ongoing 2016 Beijing Motor Show, Volkswagen has introduced a full-size SUV concept christened as T-Prime GTE. It is based on the German automaker’s new MLB platform, which is a modular longitudinal platform. The T-Prime GTE has got huge proportions and will be positioned above the Volkswagen Touareg SUV. The upcoming range topping SUV from VW gets the latest design direction, which is subtle yet classy. The giant VW is 5070 mm long, 1999 mm wide and 1707 mm tall which makes it close to the Audi Q7.

The front profile of the Volkswagen T-Prime GTE Concept is dominated by the huge chrome laden grille that extends seamlessly into the sizeable headlamps. The front bumper integrates C-shaped LED DRLs and the hood gets some muscular details to boast its sheer size. The side profile exhibits huge wheel arches filled neatly with big multi-spoke alloy wheels. The rear immediately reminds you of the Audi Q7, specially looking at the tail lamps.

The straightforward yet polished styling details continues on the inside. The layered dashboard includes gloss black finish, wood embellishments along with subtle chrome highlights. The centre console is heavily tilted towards the driver and gets a large display that seamlessly continues towards the instrument cluster, it looks very futuristic. The 3-spoke steering wheel is inspired by the newer lot of Audis. In production guise, expect the T-Prime GTE to get a toned down practical cabin.

Powering the Volkswagen T-Prime GTE Concept is a plug-in hybrid motor having a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine producing 248 BHP and 300 Nm along with an electric motor generating 134 BHP and 349 Nm. All the power is channeled through an 8-speed automatic transmission that powers all the four wheels with permanent all-wheel drive system. It will return a combined fuel efficiency of 37 km/l, which is exceptional for an SUV this size. The T-Prime is fast as well, doing 0-100 km/hr in 6 seconds with a top speed of 224 km/hr.
