The VW T-Roc will get a higher ground clearance of 149 mm for the India-spec model.

The VW T-Roc will sit below the Tiguan in the company’s India line-up

The Volkswagen T-Roc SUV has been spied on test on the outskirts of Pune. In terms of dimension, the new SUV is shorter but wider than the Tiguan and will sit below the latter in the company’s India portfolio. It will arrive in the country via the CBU (Completely Built-Up) route.

The Volkswagen T-Roc was premiered at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show after being showcased as a concept at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. Just like the Tiguan, the T-Roc is underpinned by the brand’s modular MQB platform. The SUV gets a thin VW grille and relatively thinner headlights that are wrapped around the front fenders. The LED daytime running lamps and cornering lamps have been housed within the front bumper. It also gets a prominent trapezoidal-shaped cooling duct and a silver-coloured kick plate within the bumper’s lower section. The SUV gets a two-tone paint scheme and a swage line that runs above the door handles as a defined shoulder line.

The Volkswagen T-Roc has a comparatively sportier stance than the Tiguan. It is likely that it will get a higher ground clearance of 149 mm for the India-spec model instead of 130 mm in the variants sold abroad. The SUV is expected to feature a 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox producing 150 PS of power. It will most likely be a front-wheel-drive version and will miss the company’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.

Volkswagen is likely to tag the Tiguan around Rs. 20 lakhs (ex-showroom).
