The new colours do enhance the visual appeal of the Alpha by an extent

With the popularity of scooters on the rise in India, all two-wheeler manufacturers are trying hard to get volumes from its respective scooters. Yamaha is one such manufacturer that has slowly started concentrating more on the scooter segment and recently launched the good looking Fascino in India. But, the Japanese major is also looking to make its existing scooter portfolio attractive as well and has just introduced three new dual-tone colours for the Alpha scooter, namely, Gleaming Gold, Beaming Blue and Rocking Red.

Yamaha is hoping that the new colour schemes will attract a younger audience base to the company’s dealerships. More sales could also creep in as we move closer to the festive season. One will have to pay a premium of around Rs. 1000/- for the new colours over the standard paint schemes with the new range costing Rs. 49,939/- (ex-showroom Delhi). On the mechanical front, the scooter comes with the same 113cc single-cylinder, 4-stroke, air-cooled SOHC engine that churns out 7.1 PS of power at 7500 RPM and 8.1 Nm of torque at 5000 RPM.

The Alpha comes with the company’s CVT automatic gearbox and Blue Core technology that enhances the scooter’s fuel efficiency by reducing friction, the claimed mileage being 66 km/l. Other good things about the Alpha is its very long and comfortable seat, a telescopic front suspension and a large under seat storage with a capacity of 21 litres. Recently, the company had also updated its other scooter models including the Ray and Ray Z, with its next generation Blue Core technology.
