Yamaha is developing electric two-wheelers for the global market

Engineers at Yamaha are contributing their knowledge in developing electric two-wheeler platform from the various centres of Yamaha across the globe. The bike maker is tagging up with multiple EV components suppliers. Along with that, Yamaha is conducting tests in India at the ground level to understand the consumer requirements, behaviour and condition of batteries in our subcontinent scenario.

The electric two-wheeler platform which is being developed will cater e-bikes to global markets along with India. Yamaha already manufactures and retails electric vehicles in other Asian countries like Japan and Taiwan. Recently, Yamaha has started retailing power-assisted electric bicycles in many countries including the USA.

The company is planning to implement a battery-swapping model in its upcoming platforms. With this tech, the customers will be able to just swap the batteries instead of charging them on the bikes. The duration for swapping the battery is expected to be the same as gas filling at the fuel station. This type of solution will be very effective for the EV charging infrastructure.

Another Japanese manufacturer, Suzuki has announced that they will launch their first set of electric two-wheelers by 2020. Along with Suzuki and Yamaha, there are many domestic manufacturers like Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor Company and even Royal Enfield who are developing electric two-wheelers for the Indian market.
