Renault Scala Automatic Review

Renault India recently announced the launch of Scala Automatic featuring the all new X-tronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). The Scala CVT is available only with the 1.5-litre petrol engine in RXL and RXZ variants. The Renault Scala RXL X-tronic CVT is priced at Rs. 8,99,000/- and the top of the line RXZ X-tronic CVT is priced at Rs. 9,89,000/- (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). Renault has priced the automatic variant aggressively to take on rivals like the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento and Ford Fiesta.

The Renault Scala with its new X-tronic CVT transmission offers effortless drive-ability in the city traffic avoiding shift-shock fluctuations and providing seamless gear changes. The new automatic transmission offers better fuel efficiency when compared to its manual transmission claiming an impressive fuel efficiency figure of 17.97 km/l. The X-tronic CVT transmission achieves the widest range of transmission ratio of 3.46:1.

The CVT gearbox in the Scala automatic generates 30 percent less friction and is 10 percent smaller as well as 13 percent lighter than a conventional CVT transmission. The Renault Scala is known for its spacious interiors and good ride quality. The vehicle’s 1.5-litre petrol engine is capable of producing a maximum power output of 100 BHP at 5600 RPM and a maximum torque figure of 134 Nm at 4000 RPM. Renault India can expect good volumes from the Scala CVT variant.
