Maruti Suzuki YL1 Snapped Caught Uncamouflaged

Maruti Suzuki YL1 Spyshot

Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch an all new sedan by 2014, codenamed YL1. The C-segment sedan is intended to compete with the likes of the Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid and so on. The YL1 sedan has recently been spied uncamouflaged by our friends at Team-BHP. The pictures reveal the new design and Suzuki Authentics derived styling. The front end gives you a sense of Honda Accord with a wide and sharp fascia that includes heavy dosage of chrome strips on the wide grille along with a broad wrap around headlamp cluster featuring projectors.

The hood of the Maruti YL1 is long and the front bumper is treated with sharp and sporty styling. On the side, it reveals a sharp shoulder line that connects with the rear. It is likely to retain the huge ground clearance as seen on the SX4. At the rear, it gets a wide set of tail lamps with a chrome garnish in between and a well-sized bumper. On the inside, expect the automaker to share the interior elements with the Swift siblings along with some premium add-ons. The leg room of the sedan is said to be at par with the Nissan Sunny.

It is yet to be known if the YL1 sedan is a replacement of the SX4 or if Maruti Suzuki plans to sell the SX4 alongside it after launch. It will be powered by both diesel and petrol engine options including the Fiat sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine and 1.4-litre K-Series petrol motor. The YL1 will follow the traditional lineup of variants – LXi, VXi, ZXi, LDi, VDi and ZDi. The range topping models will be equipped with 16-inch wheels bolted onto 195 section tyres, while the base variant will come with 15-inchers. We can expect the YL1 to be priced aggressively with a slightly higher price over the SX4.

    The design looks outdated

  • Gokul

Design is great for a sub 10 L . But we have to see how it outcomes the comfort of City and Rapid.

  • dharun

what abt the fiat sourced 1.6mjd engine that was rumored to be put in this vehicle some time ago. then maruti can seriously consider fighting the big fight in the c segment with their guns fully loaded

  • Ben

amazing to see this premium styling in a Suzuki sedan. hope it throws the rest of sedans a run for their money by very aggressive pricing. the only dis appointment is the lack of Suzuki’s 136bhp petrol engine from the swift sport.

  • sandy

I like the first picture, looks good and matured, the rear tail lamp and some parts reminds Ertiga. Any idea how sizable it is: taking the reference as 3 options – Vento, City or Linea?

  • shahul

design seems to have inspired from chinese cars……..good work maruthi…
nowadays any crap with maruthi badge will sell like hot cakes…so no need to bother too much about desingn…..

  • true

Just a 1.3 liter engine for such a big car. Really underpowered. Will have problems overtaking.

  • Ninu

    Highly dis proportionate..

  • VINU

THE CAR LOOKS MODERN AND SPACIOUS AND WILL BE A WORST NIGHT MARE FOR VERNACAR. THE 1.6 LTR MULTIJET ENGINE WILL BE A PERFECT SUIT . HOPE MARUTI WILL CONSIDER IT
