The upcoming Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms will change the Indian auto market scenario. Maruti Suzuki is ready with the BS6 vehicles and they will roll out the compliant vehicles by early 2020. This new rule will not just be for the carmakers but also for component makers such as the oil industry and every element that is affected by the upcoming emission norms.

The supreme court has decided earlier this week to stop the sale of BS4 vehicles by 31 March 2020 and start the sale of BS6 vehicles from 1 April 2020. Maruti Suzuki will be rolling out BS6 vehicles from January 2020 which is three months prior than the deadline.

The BS6 norms will be applied with new safety standards for cars that will need to be structurally safe. This will see a number of current models being comprehensively reworked to meet the new safety standards. Maruti’s team is working to make their models meet the upcoming safety standards as well.

The Maruti 800 had discontinued due to the current emission norms. The company is also likely to discontinue the Maruti Omni and Eeco due to the upcoming safety standards which will kick in by 2020. This time, Maruti Suzuki will be ready with BS6 vehicles before the deadlines.
