Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG) has commenced production at the third unit/assembly line of its Ahmedabad-based manufacturing plant.

The subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation has completed construction of the Plant C and consequently initiated production from April 2021, Maruti Suzuki India said in a regulatory filing, today.

The newly-opened Plant C has an annual production capacity of 2.5 lakh units. When Plant A and Plant B are taken into account, Suzuki Motor Gujarat now has an annual production capacity of 7.5 lakh units. All automobiles produced at the Gujarat plant will be supplied to Maruti Suzuki India.

Established in March 2014, Suzuki Motor Gujarat was created to improve the Japanese auto major’s production ability in India as well as cater to its expanding export operations.

While the Plant A began manufacturing the Baleno from 1st February 2017, Plant B and powertrain plant started operating in January 2019.

Within a short period, by October 2020, Suzuki Motor Gujarat become the fastest production site of Suzuki to achieve accumulated automobile production of 10 lakh units.

Now, Suzuki’s production ability in the country stands at 22.5 lakh units, for Maruti Suzuki can produce up to 15 lakh units a year.
