The 2016 TVS Apache 200 will be getting clip-on handlebars, 130 section rear tyre and split seats for that sporty look matching the performance.
The past months have seen TVS making the right noises with its first product with BMW, the G310R finally coming to fruition while its own flagship the Apache 200 is in its final stages of testing. Adding to the excitement, our reader Akshay managed to snap what seems a production ready Apache 200 in Bangalore ahead of the 20th January (reported) showcase. Although camouflaged, the test mule exposed some interesting details that will be adding value to the flagship TVS.
On the outset, the 2016 TVS Apache 200 gets a 130/70/R17 rear tyre while the front is likely to use a 100 section unit. You can make out the chiselled fuel tank with ample of space for your thighs, inspired from the Draken concept. Also noticeable are the perforated split seats, W-shaped grab rail, clear lens indicators, LED tail lights and a rather long rear mudguard. The images also show the aluminium foot pegs, engine cowl and the chrome finished telescopic forks up front while DRLs should be added to the package as well.
Further, the TVS Apache 200 test mule was equipped with clip-on handlebars contrary to a single-piece unit. There have been reports of two versions being tested, so it will be interesting to see which one actually makes it to production. The test mule also partially revealed the headlight showing its tapered bottom while the twin exhaust muffler can do with a better design. Talking about mechanicals, a 200cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine is likely to power the new Apache tuned for a 25 BHP and 22 Nm of torque. It is believed that the street-fighter will be riding on Pirelli tyres for export markets but the Indian version will get TVS rubber.
Rumour has it that the new TVS Apache 200 will be locking horns with the KTM Duke 200 in terms of performance with a possible 0-60 km/hr time achievable under 3.5 seconds. Little can be confirmed about the powertrain though at this point while an official confirmation for the reveal of the model is yet to come from the automaker. That said, the anticipation for the new TVS only grows further as the motorcycle is expected to put up a tough fight against a host of models in the Rs. 1 lakh performance segment.
