Land Rover has announced the Range Rover Evoque Convertible Concept, which is the world’s first premium convertible SUV. To be unveiled for the every first time at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show 2012, the Evoque Convertible is based on the 3-door Evoque Coupe and is being showcased to gauge customer response and feedback for future production decision. The Range Rover Evoque Convertible features a fully retractable top with Roll Over Protection System (ROPS) and seats 4-people. Range Rover Evoque India Launch photo

The Tata Motors acquired British auto company, Jaguar Land Rover recently made waves in the global auto market with the launch of its product, the Land Rover Evoque. The car garnered so much attention that its bookings were stopped few days after its launch and it also went on to win the SUV of the year award from TopGear! Now, the company seeing the success wave is planning to introduce a bigger version of the Evoque to fill in the gap between the current Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. The growing sales of its competitor models, the BMW X and the Audi Q models are also encouraging the company to widen its product portfolio. The new bigger Evoque will mostly be named the XL edition and will be based on the same LR-MS architecture which is implemented in the current model. This was developed from the Ford EU-CD platform providing foundation to the LR2. According to the company, the packaging efficiency of this platform will help in developing a scaled up version of the car providing more space especially for the rear passengers. The Range Rover Evoque is the smallest JLR vehicle in sale and yet is the most desirable one. Now BBC UK TopGear Magazine has give the Evoque the 2011 Car of the year (COTY) award and also named it top in the SUV category (picked by Jeremy Clarkson). But it was not easy for the Evoque who had to compete with cars like Ferrari FF and Mclaren MP4 12C. TopGear took the Evoque on an African adventure to celebrate the award, putting it through some rough terrain en route. Both 3 and 5-door versions available. Prices start at Rs. 44.75 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai) for the Pure, Rs. 56 lakhs for the Dynamic petrol and Rs. 51.5 lakhs for the dynamic diesel. The Range Rover Evoque SUV is expected to be launched in India very soon. Hearing this if you are planning to book one, you might have just missed the chance. According to reports, the first lot of Evoques that are supposed to be come to India have already been sold out. The Evoque will be imported to India via the CBU route and is expected to cost over Rs. 50 Lakh. It will be available in both petrol and diesel variants but going by the soaring petrol prices, the diesel version is definitely going to be the major chunk of the total sales. The Evoque is available in 3 trim levels: ‘Pure’, ‘Dynamic’ and ‘Prestige’. The Dynamic variant gets more sportier bits while the Pure trim may not be offered to Indian customers. Just recently we had posted confirmed news of the Range Rover Evoque arriving in India by the end of the year and now we have some spy shots of the car being tested by ARAI in Pune. The camouflaged vehicle was spotted near Paud Road and can be easily identified as the Evoque. The Evoque is undergoing homologation and will be launched as a CBU initially. The kits will be brought in from Hailwood, UK but Tata Motors does have plans to locally assemble the Evoque in the later half of 2012. The Range Rover Evoque will slot right above the Freelander 2 and will be priced around Rs. 48 lakhs for the base model. The base model will use a 2.2-liter dieel motor producing 190 BHP of power, while the petrol version will produce 240 BHP of power and will cost upwards of Rs. 60 lakhs. [click to continue…]
