The Concorso D’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2014 is a competition of class, elegance, grace and all things of fine taste. Several legendary manufacturers like Rolls-Royce, Bentley, BMW, Aston Martin and many more have been a part of this competition. While BMW showcased the Roadster Concept motorcycle at the event, the company’s British arm MINI has come forward with a rather stunning concept that has been conceived in conjunction with Italian design and coach-building firm Touring Superleggera.
The MINI Superleggera Vision Concept is a one of a kind model that has been put together exclusively for the Concorso D’Eleganza Villa d’Este with this year’s theme being the ‘Roaring Twenties’. The MINI Superleggera blends the past and present together in one mould with a British touch in the design. BMW says that the concept is an elegant automobile which interprets a British roadster under the influence of Italian style and hand craftsmanship.
In terms of styling, the English influence is evident throughout the design of the MINI Superleggera Concept. Several styling cues from older British roadsters and speedster models have been incorporated in the open top concept along with some Italian flair. The design uses a minimalistic approach, maintaining clean lines throughout the concept. The vehicle gets a MINI front fascia that looks elegant and poised and features LED daytime running lights, while the rear features the extremely stylish tail lights that have been themed after the British Union Jack. The attention to detail is just amazing on the Superleggera concept.
The technicalities on the MINI Superleggera Vision Concept include a weight saving alloy space frame chassis encased within a hand beaten body shell. The emphasis has been on saving weight on the open top cruiser and is void of fancy equipment on board. The concept has been conceived to become a thoroughbred sports car. While MINI has not revealed the powertrain of the concept, expect the car to be fairly zippy and powerful with 0-100 km/hr expected in less than 7 seconds.
Certainly an elegant and a very beautiful concept, the styling on the MINI Superleggera Vision needs to be closely watched and could make it to production as a possible answer to the Mazda MX-5 in the future. We leave you to the amazing shots of the open top cruiser.
