Italian bike manufacturer Benelli who recently entered the Indian market plans to make ABS an optional feature on all of its models by 2016. Instead of outsourcing the ABS kit from a third party, Benelli is planning to develop its own in China to reduce costs. Still prices can increase by Rs. 20,000/- to Rs. 40,000/- if ABS is taken as an option. The Government of India has also asked manufacturers to make ABS a standard equipment in motorcycles above 125cc engine capacity by 2017.

According to Mr. Shirish Kulkarni, Chairman, DSK Motowheels, the company is working efficiently to reduce costs on other grounds as well. He also confirmed that ABS will be available primarily on the TNT 300i and TNT 600i and the rest of the range is expected to get it later next year. Braking assistance on Benelli bikes already comes from a Brembo setup and ABS will definitely increase rider’s confidence.

Currently Benelli offers a wide range of motorcycles which includes the TNT 300, TNT 600i, TNT 600 GT, TNT 899 and TNT 1130 R. They are also ready to launch their most affordable model, the TNT 25 in November 2015 which is expected to be priced around Rs. 2 lakhs and will compete with the likes of the KTM Duke 200 and Mahindra Mojo. Benelli recently came up with the limited edition version of the TNT 600i which features a special golden paint job.

Benelli is also planning to expand its dealership network in the country and expects to sell around 4000 bikes this year. The company will be opening 14 new dealerships which will take the total to 25 outlets. DSK Motorwheels, Benelli’s strategic partner is assembling the bikes and supporting them with an efficient service network. They are also offering a 24×7 breakdown service for its customers. The dealerships will also act as a platform for motorcycle enthusiasts to interact with other bikers to share their experiences and views. The newest Benelli dealership was inaugurated in Goa earlier this week.
