The Ignis is based on Suzuki’s iM-4 concept which was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show earlier in the year. Suzuki has already announced a line-up of upto 15 cars to be launched in India over the next 5 years out of which the Baleno has already been launched. Next in their queue are the Vitara and Ignis which will be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and brought into the market at a later stage, the latter in 2017.

The Suzuki Ignis is expected to get the 1.2 litre, Dual-Jet engine that produces a maximum power output of 89 BHP with a maximum torque of 120 Nm, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and a CVT transmission. In India though, the car will draw power from the 1.2-litre K-Series motor. Reports also suggest that the vehicle might also get an option of Suzuki’s new 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder BoosterJet engine as well.

The Ignis is expected to make an entry into the Indian market either by late 2016 or early 2017, being a sub-4 metre compact crossover, it will compete with other cars like the Hyundai i20 Active, Mahindra TUV300 and Ford EcoSport. The Suzuki Ignis gets the AWD function, but in India we might see just a front-wheel drive version, while the AWD may or may not come due to the low demand for such a variant.

The Ignis is part of the same platform that underpins the Baleno, hence many of its features will be shared with the recently launched premium hatchback. The price tag expected for the Ignis lies between the range of Rs. 6 to 10 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Also their is not yet any clarity on the nameplate of the car, as to whether or not it will be named as Ignis in India.
