The next generation Chevrolet Spark shares its underpinnings with the Opel Karl and will be unveiled later this year.

2016 Chevrolet Spark Spied
The new Spark gets a more rounded design opposed to the current generation model

Testing for over a year now across the globe, the next-generation 2016 Chevrolet Spark (Beat in India) was recently spotted completely undisguised save for the logo somewhere in Korea, leaving very little to the imagination. With the model scheduled to make its debut later this year, the spy images showcase the 2016 Spark production ready complete with the radical new design compared to the sporty styling seen on the outgoing model and sharp character lines featured on the sides.

The fourth generation Chevrolet Spark has a European tone in its design with a bit of Korean flair (put a Hyundai badge in front and no one will notice). The design is a lot more upright that replaces the unorthodox funky styling the current Spark is known for. The new design will also ensure space is increased on the inside over the outgoing model. As seen in the images, the front fascia gets the familiar split grille along with triangular fog lamps and is finished with oodles of chrome. The side profile gets the very dramatic character lines while the C-pillar mounted rear door handle has been carried forward on the new generation Spark as well.

In terms of powertrain, the 2016 Chevrolet Spark will draw power from the new 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine under the hood, paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The new Spark shares its underpinnings with the Opel Karl and Vauxhall Viva that are currently on sale in Europe. With the new design, Chevrolet is certainly targeting a wider customer base as opposed to the funky design language seen on the outgoing model that appealed more to the young and free. It needs to be seen as to when General Motors will bring the new Spark to India.
