Volvo India will be launching the all new 2016 XC90 in September. The car will be offered in two trims – Momentum and Inscription with the latter being the top most variant of Volvo’s flagship SUV offering. The Swedish brand will be looking to grab the attention of Indian luxury SUV buyers and is hoping to sell about 500 units of the car this year, a target which seems quite optimistic indeed. Pre-bookings for the Volvo XC90 will commence from next month although some dealers have already started to take bookings.

The XC90’s Momentum trim is offered with keyless entry, panoramic sunroof, driver’s seat with memory function, power-folding third row backrest, rain sensors, LED headlights, electrically-operated child locks and electrically-operated tailgate. The vehicle gets a huge 12.3-inch screen in the instrument cluster, an audio system with USB and AUX function, park assist and hill descent control and a 12V power outlet in the boot.

The top-end Inscription trim of the Volvo XC90 on the other hand boasts of additional features like a Heads-up display, a 19-speaker Bowers and Wilkins audio system, air suspension, neat wood finishes, ventilated front seats and Nappa leather upholstery. On the outside, this variant gets dual exhaust pipes and roof rails.

Unveiled in August last year, the new generation Volvo XC90 is based on the company’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) modular platform and will be competing against the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Mercedes GL in the segment. The car internationally gets three engines, but in India it will be initially offered in a single drive-train powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder, twin-turbocharged D5 diesel engine producing 225 BHP of power and 470 Nm of torque, paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission with power being sent to all four wheels.
