An interior sketch of the 2017 Hyundai Verna has been revealed by the automaker, ahead of its launch on 22nd August.

The dashboard now gets a more driver-centric layout

Hyundai had showcased the 2017 Hyundai Verna at the Beijing Motor Show in April last year. The fourth generation Accent is being sold as Hyundai Verna in the Indian market since 2011. It was a runaway success due to its fluidic styling, premium interiors and a host of features. Hyundai launched a mid-life facelift in 2015 but it was too late to leave an impact as there were better options in the form of the Honda City and Maruti Ciaz.

With the new generation of the sedan, it is evident that the exterior styling has been toned down. This was a much needed change which will help this generation age more gracefully. The new generation is based on ‘Fluidic 2.0’ design theme and looks identical to the elder sibling Elantra. Despite being based on the same reworked chassis, the 2017 Verna is 15 mm longer and 29 mm wider than the outgoing generation. As a result, wheelbase has increased by 10 mm and boot space has gone up by 16-litres.

As visible in the sketch, the interior theme is clean and elegant much like the Hyundai Creta. There is no quirkiness in the design which will be liked by the masses. Interior quality is expected to be top-notch and leather upholstery will be provided on higher variants. Seating position appears to be low-slung.

Another noteworthy point is that the central console is angled towards the driver which hints that the 2017 Hyundai Verna is a driver-oriented car. A touchscreen infotainment system will also be offered. Projector headlamps, alloy wheels and LED DRLs will be offered as standard equipment.

There will be no change in the engine options for the vehicle. It will continue to be powered by 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre engine options, in petrol as well as diesel, which might be retuned to generate more power and efficiency. A 6-speed automatic transmission will replace the current 4-speed one. To reach a wider audience, Hyundai will merge these transmissions to different engine options and create different combinations.

As we have seen with recent Hyundai launches, ride quality and handling is expected to improve vastly. Paired to punchy 1.6-litre engines, a sorted suspension will do wonders to the driving experience. The steering feel and high speed stability will also be improved with this generation. The 2017 Hyundai Verna will compete with the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid and the Fiat Linea. Prices may witness a slight increment due to the all-rounder nature of the new generation. The pricing alone would decide if it will turn the tables around for Hyundai or not!
