Kawasaki has launched the third generation Ninja 1000 sports-tourer in India priced at Rs. 9.98 lakhs (ex-showroom, pan-India). The motorcycle is locally assembled via the SKD route in India at Kawasaki’s recently opened plant in Chakan. Currently, in its third iteration, the Ninja 1000 gets sharper styling reminiscent of Kawasaki’s supersport offerings.

As far as looks are concerned, the Ninja 1000 gets a wider two piece fairing and a taller double-bubble 3-position adjustable windshield that offers increased wind protection. Then there are the all-new dual LED headlamps with LED position lamps that consume 50 percent lesser power from the battery.

Kawasaki says the mirrors have been positioned 20 mm farther outward offering easier adjustability and a better view of the rear. The pillion seat is longer by 25 mm with better padding than before that will make long hours on the saddle comfortable. Both the front as well as rear foot pegs are rubber mounted.

Inside that two piece fairing is a 1043cc 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, in-line 4, Euro 4 compliant engine that produces 142 HP of power and 111 Nm of torque. This motor comes matched to a 6-speed gearbox and Kawasaki has thrown in a host of electronics on the Ninja 1000, like KTRC (Kawasaki Traction and Wheelie Control), KCMF (Kawasaki Cornering Management Function) and KIBS (Kawasaki Intelligent anti-lock Braking System).

The 2017 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 also gets ride-by-wire and IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit). Suspension duties are via 41 mm inverted forks with rebound damping and spring preload adjustability upfront and a horizontal back-link gas-charged monoshock at the rear.

Tipping the scale at 239 kgs, the Ninja 1000 comes with a 19-litres of fuel-tank capacity. The 17-inch alloys come wrapped in 120 section tyre up front and a 190 section tyre at the rear. Dual 300 mm semi-floating petal discs at the front and a 250 mm petal disc at the rear do the job of bringing the Ninja 1000 to a halt. The Kawasaki Ninja 1000 rivals the Suzuki GSX-S1000F.
