The 2018 Force Gurkha Xtreme is likely to be priced in the vicinity of Rs. 14 lakhs (on-road)

Days back there were media reports that a more powerful version of the Force Gurkha is getting ready for a launch in the Indian market. Called the Force Gurkha Xtreme, brochures of the off-roader are doing rounds on the internet revealing all the details of the SUV. Sources confirm that bookings for the Gurkha Xtreme have commenced and the vehicle is likely to be priced in the range of Rs. 13.50 – 14 lakhs (on-road).

In terms of design and looks, the Gurkha Xtreme looks similar to the Xplorer variant but there are subtle differences between the two. For instance, the design of the alloy wheels is different and the bonnet mounted lamps are clear lens ones (the Xplorer gets orange coloured lamps).

Unlike the regular Gurkha which uses an 85 HP 2.6-litre diesel motor, the Gurkha Xtreme draws power from a new Mercedes-Benz OM611-derived 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel unit that churns out 140 HP of power at 3800 RPM and 321 Nm of torque at 1600-2400 RPM. The powerplant comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox with a 4×4 drivetrain and front and rear locking differentials. The significant increase in power output is likely to make the Gurkha Xtreme a good highway cruiser as well.

The 2018 Force Gurkha Xtreme gets a multi-link setup suspension with anti-roll bars both at the front and rear. The front track at 1530 mm is 40 mm wider than the standard Gurkha whereas other dimensions like the length, width, height and even the wheelbase are identical to the Gurkha Xplorer. Stopping power comes from disc brakes at the front and drum units at the rear. The vehicle comes shod with 16-inch wheels wrapped in 245-section tyres.

The 2018 Force Gurkha Xtreme will be available only in the 3-door variant but with the option of hard top and soft top. The hard top variant seats six people (including the driver) while the soft top can accommodate eight people. The SUV is likely to be launched by the end of this month or early next month.
