About two weeks after the announcement, the 2018 Suzuki Gixxer duo have started arriving at dealerships.
Suzuki is constantly updating their Gixxer motorcycles to keep them looking fresh and bring in new customers. Only a couple of months back, they had launched an ABS option for their Gixxer model. Two months later, the 2018 iterations of the Suzuki Gixxer SP and Gixxer SF SP were announced. Now, both the bikes have been spotted arriving at Suzuki dealerships.
The 2018 Gixxer SP and Gixxer SF SP have got a new Gold and Black colour scheme with a 2018 SP emblem. The changes for the Gixxer SP are limited to visual updates only. Whereas, the Gixxer SF SP gets some additional features. These include a standard fuel-injector for the engine and a single-channel ABS. The Gixxer SP’s engine only gets a carburettor.
Mechanically though, the 2018 Gixxer bikes remain completely the same. Both, the Suzuki Gixxer SP and Gixxer SF SP will continue to be powered by a 154.9cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 14.5 HP at 8000 RPM and a peak torque of 14 Nm at 6000 RPM. A 5-speed gearbox transfers the power to the rear wheel. There is a 266 mm disc brake at the front and a 220 mm disc brake at the rear on both the motorcycles.
The cost for the 2018 Suzuki Gixxer SF has gone up by Rs. 4910/- and it now costs Rs. 87,250 (ex-showroom, Delhi) while strangely the Suzuki Gixxer SF SP continues to cost the same at Rs. 1,00,630/- (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The Suzuki Gixxer duo have always been motorcycles that its customers speak highly of. They look good, ride well and have good performance. Even though a major update for the Gixxer is slated for 2019, these little updates will keep the bikes looking fresh until then. The Suzuki Gixxer duo compete with the likes of the TVS Apache RTR 160, Yamaha FZS-FI and the Honda CB Hornet 160R.
