2021 Mahindra XUV500 Spied Side
This move will profoundly benefit the firm’s competition

It has come to light that Mahindra will only unveil the 2021 XUV500 in the second half of this year before launching the premium SUV by September.

The carmaker has been caught testing the model fervently in the past months and it was believed that the SUV will go into production by April-end and consequently get launched soon after.

However, due to reasons unknown, the SUV is not slated to appear at showrooms before September this year and early customers will only get their hands on the new generation XUV500 by November.

Although there might be several internal reasons for this unfortunate delay, the global semiconductor shortage could have played a massive hand in this.

Mahindra was earlier caught sending several Thar units to dealerships without their infotainment systems (read article here). Considering the fact that the XUV500 has lots more electronic components than the Thar, the carmaker would have decided it best to sit this one out for a while.

As reported earlier, the new generation XUV500 will come with a digital instrument cluster, a large touchscreen for the infotainment system and crucially, among several other features, it is set to feature advanced driver assistance systems as well.

It will also feature a new exterior design and is expected to come in both 6- and 7-seat layouts. A turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine and a new diesel engine of the same capacity are expected to power the model and there will be manual and automatic gearbox options for both.

While the 2021 Mahindra XUV500 unveil has been put on the back burner, the car manufacturer could well launch its next-generation Scorpio, which has also been given a complete overhaul both on the outside and inside, in the meantime.
