The 2022 Opel Astra will be assembled at Rüsselsheim in Germany
Opel has revealed the 2022 model year Astra which sports completely new design inside and out. The sixth-generation model of the premium hatchback is built on Stellantis’ EMP2 platform, like the Peugeot 308.
Measuring 4374 mm long, 1860 mm wide and with a wheelbase of 2765 mm, the 2022 Open Astra is wider and has more wheelbase than its predecessor.
And it shows. The car’s overhangs are smaller, especially at the front, while the body is wider and tauter. The black contrast roof and blacked A- and B-pillars do make the greenhouse look a lot narrow, though.
Upfront, it has a very similar ‘face’ to that of the recently revealed Manta GSe Elektromod, but, the bumper (with the wide air intake) is unique to the Astra. The car has matrix LED headlights.
Along the sides, the German firm has given the hatchback crisp character lines and wheels that fill the arches, and at the rear, there are slim, split tail lamps, roof spoiler and an aggressive bumper.
The Volkswagen Golf rival’s cabin has a minimalistic design sporting very few shortcut buttons. Like every new modern car, the 2022 Opel Astra will come with a (10-inch) digital instrument cluster and a large (also 10-inch) touchscreen.
There is a head-up display, 360-degree camera, cruise control with stop and go, among other features that are on offer as well.
The new Astra will be available with a choice of petrol and diesel engines which will put out between 110 HP and 225 HP. There will also be a couple of plug-in hybrids, while transmission options include a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed auto.
Bookings for the car will open this fall in Europe and customers will be able to take delivery of the vehicle in early 2022. The estate model will be revealed in the coming months.
