2025 Lamborghini Urus to get a plug-in hybrid powertrain

Lamborghini is preparing to electrify the 2025 Urus performance SUV with a Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) variant. A glimpse of the prototype undergoing testing reveals some interesting changes both inside and out.

The 2025 Lamborghini Urus exhibits several notable changes. The headlights feature a new shape and distinct elements, giving the front end a refreshed appearance. Although camouflaged, it’s evident that the front bumper and grille have been redesigned.

There’s a prominent new rear spoiler adding to the sporty appeal. There is a possibility of updated tail lights that will revise the rear look of the performance SUV. It retains the quad exhaust system and this particular test mule flaunts neon green brake callipers for boosting the visual appeal.

The most significant update in the cabin is the mildly revised centre console, boasting a fresh look for the air vents and new buttons placed between the dual screens. The lower display appears to be slightly larger, likely to accommodate new information related to the PHEV system. The doors and dashboard trim also receive an update to make it look fresh and modern.

Under the hood, the combustion engine is expected to be the same twin-turbo V8 found in the current Urus models. However, Lamborghini will introduce an electric motor to work in tandem with the V8, providing a boost in performance and improved efficiency.

Porsche is also developing a PHEV V8 Cayenne, which is expected to produce over 700 HP and 900 Nm of torque. Both the SUVs share the same MLB Evo platform and are assembled at the VW Group’s plant in Slovakia. While the specs of the upcoming Urus are not confirmed, we can expect similar or even better performance figures from that PHEV setup.

As the world is moving towards electrification, the new generation Lamborghini Urus that will make its debut in 2029 will go all-electric. Petrolheads who are dreaming of owning a loud Urus, this is your last chance!
