The 2015-16 financial year commenced on a disappointing note for the two-wheeler industry as the rural market witnessed a major debacle due to the unexpected rains. With harvests destroyed, most manufacturers could feel the crunch in sales, especially for their commuter offerings. Nonetheless, the month hasn’t been as arduous as one would imagine with the urban market still holding the momentum in sales, balancing the growth well. That said, here are the top 10 selling two-wheelers in India for the April 2015 period.

Top 10 Two-Wheeler Sales April 2015

Observations –

1) Hero MotoCorp gets the undivided attention of the masses as it continues to be the most selling two-wheeler maker with 5 models on the list. While the Splendor continues to hold the pole position with almost 2 lakh sales, the newest Hero on the list was the Maestro automatic scooter that joined the lineup at the 10th spot with 43,796 units sold, replacing the Glamour motorcycle that moved up to the 8th spot.

2) The Maestro though was the only Hero offering that posted positive sales for the manufacturer, the company’s other offerings including the Splendor, Passion, HF Deluxe and Glamour witnessed a drop in year-on-year sales.

3) The Activa continues to be Honda India’s best performer retailing 1,73,087 units in April 2015 and witnessed a growth of 18.78 percent compared to April 2014. The other product from the Japanese manufacturer’s stable on the list was the very consistent CB Shine with a year-on-year growth of 6.37 percent.

4) Honda witnessed an overall growth of 9 percent in April 2015 by selling 3,40,791 units (domestic and exports), contrary to the industry drop of 4 percent in growth. The manufacturer now commands a market share of 25.6 percent in the domestic two-wheeler space.

5) Relying on the Discover and Pulsar series for growth, Bajaj Auto had the CT 100 joining the lineup this time that debuted at the 7th spot with 53,331 units sold. The Discover though could not make it the top 10 series, but the Pulsar did manage to make it to the 9th spot, moving one position down compared to last year. The new Pulsar range though are expected to be volume spinners for the Pune based bike maker in the coming months.

6) TVS continues to be the humble manufacturer that it is and had the XL Super grab the 6th spot with 60,561 units sold; a growth of almost 10 percent over the same period last year. TVS was also the other company to post positive year-on-year growth of 13 percent with a total of 1,62,516 units sold in April 2015, as compared to the 1,43,434 units sold in the same month last year.
