Audi showcased the Nanuk Quattro Concept at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. What makes this Audi R8 looking concept different is that this car offers a much higher ground clearance. This benefits those who would prefer to use their sports cars more on a daily basis. Other than that, the Nanuk Concept stands true like any other mid-engine sportscar. A sportscar which is as comfortable in rough roads and snow as it would be on smooth roads. Audi has plans to introduce the production version of this sports concept.
Audi officials cited that running the Nanuk Concept into production mode is a sensible move from a financial point of view. The sports concept would be using a modified mid-engine platform originally being developed for the next generation Audi R8 and the Lamborghini Gallardo. This would be keeping costs at check and will create volumes in a mid-engine sports car range. The adaptive air suspension system will feature electronically controlled dampers that will offer three levels of ground clearance. The car rests on 22-inch wheels and has a wheelbase of 2710 mm.
The power to the Quattro system is given by a 5.0-litre, V10 TDI engine which boasts of producing 536 BHP of power and 1000 Nm of torque developed from as low as 1500 RPM. The engine is coupled to a 7-speed S-tronic automatic gearbox. Performance is definitely sportscar like with a top-speed of 305 km/hr and the vehicle taking just 3.8 seconds to do the 0-100 km/hr sprint. Once into production, the high-riding sportscar might also feature a V10 gasoline engine from Lamborghini.
Audi is majorly targeting the middle-eastern and Russian markets. However, Audi must know that this concept will be a welcome move in our country, where the wealthy lovingly afford such cars but seldom find good roads to drive them on. The stance of a sleek body having higher ground clearance is not very pleasing at first sight but from practicality point of view, the Nanuk Quattro concept is a good move by the German automaker.
