Bajaj Auto plans to launch another 100cc offering, which could be its secret to boost volumes and secure its number 2 position in the 2-wheeler market. The company is working on a 100cc version of the Boxer motorcycle (codenamed D-104), which will be the third 100cc offering from the automaker. Currently Bajaj sells 100cc versions of the Platina and Discover motorcycles. However, the new 100cc Boxer, which is set to debut in November, will offer much more than other existing 100cc offerings. This will help the company to makes in-roads in the entry level segment, where Hero has been ruling since quite a long time now.

Bajaj Auto plans to take the fight directly to Hero’s Passion and Splendor and Honda’s Dream Yuga, with the Boxer 100cc motorcycle. The company plans to price it at around Rs. 40,000/-, thereby undercutting rivals by a significant amount. More so, the 100cc Boxer will be the most advanced in the segment with electric start, front disc brake, digital instrumentation and LED brake lights being offered. Bajaj Auto could name the Boxer 100cc as something else, but chances are quite slim of them doing so. The Boxer was recently launched in 150cc guise and offered in rural markets as a sturdy and powerful motorcycle.

The Bajaj Boxer 100cc will be made of fibre and plastic instead of steel, which will give the motorcycle reduced weight. Reduction in weight will lead to better performance and enhanced fuel economy. Currently Hero MotoCorp sells 4 times the amount of bikes Bajaj Auto does in the below 110cc segment. Just recently, Bajaj Auto president of motorcycle business, K. Srinivas has stated at the launch of the Discover 125 ST that the company wants to lure 100cc buyers to the 125cc segment. The company feels it can attract buyers to a higher cc segment by offering similar levels of mileage.
