Bajaj will be upgrading the Avenger later this year with the 200cc engine from the Pulsar 200 NS and it will likely get a rear disc brake as well.

Quite frankly, the Avenger is Bajaj Auto’s silent guardian. If Bajaj would be Gotham City then the Avenger would be Batman. “It’s is the product the company deserves, but not the one it needs right now.” We say this because of the sales of this entry-level cruiser that have been consistent for the longest period. That said, the Avenger is surely showing its age and Bajaj too seems to have taken notice of the same. After concentrating on the Pulsar series for the first half of 2015, news comes in that the Pune-based manufacturer will be launching a refreshed Avenger with a new engine later this year.

The Avenger cruiser is the next major update that Bajaj is planning and will get a major engine overhaul. At present, the entry-level cruiser sources power from a 220cc single-cylinder motor that also powers the Pulsar 220F and churns out 19.03 PS at 8400 RPM and 17.5 Nm of torque at 7000 RPM, paired to a 5-speed gearbox. The automaker will update the powertrain to the 200cc single-cylinder engine from the Pulsar 200 NS that belts out 23.53 PS and peak torque of 18.3 Nm (output numbers will be slightly different on the Avenger to suit the cruiser’s nature). With the new engine, the Avenger gets a significant bump in performance. The 6-speed gearbox will also be carried over.

In terms of cosmetics, we do not expect many radical changes to the Bajaj Avenger but the bike could get some upgrades including a new instrument cluster while retaining the overall silhouette from the current model. The other addition could that be of a rear disc brake which is missed on the outgoing version. A capable product in Bajaj Auto’s lineup, the 2015 Avenger 200 will see a price revision with the new prices expected to start around Rs. 97,000/-. Currently, the cruiser comes with a price tag of Rs. 93,457/- (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
