BYD recalls Seal in India to check and replace faulty battery cells

BYD has initiated a voluntary recall of its Seal electric sedan in India to address a potential fault linked to the vehicle’s high-voltage battery pack. While the company has not disclosed the number of units affected, owners have been advised to contact authorised service centres for inspection.

Scope of the Recall

According to service personnel, the recall is limited to the Seal and does not extend to other BYD models sold in the country. All variants and both battery sizes offered with the Seal are understood to be included. The car is currently available with two Blade Battery capacities – 61.44kWh and 82.56kWh – and in three trims: Dynamic (Standard Range), Premium (Extended Range) and Performance (AWD).

Nature of the Issue

The recall is linked to a possible problem with individual cells within the Blade Battery pack. These cells form the core of the high-voltage system and a fault in them has prompted the brand to replace affected packs as a precautionary measure. BYD service centres have confirmed that the inspection will involve an OBD diagnostic scan to check for errors related to the battery cells.

Customer Process and Support

Owners are encouraged to book appointments during weekdays for faster processing. Vehicles flagged by diagnostics will receive a complete battery pack replacement at no cost to the customer. If an owner cannot visit the workshop, BYD will arrange vehicle pickup through authorised staff.

Service centre representatives indicate that replacement and return of the vehicle can typically be completed within the same day, minimising downtime for customers.

Current Status

Several Seal owners have already reported being contacted for inspection and replacement. BYD India has yet to issue a public statement on the total number of vehicles affected or the timeline for completing the recall campaign.
