The demand of the Tata Nexon seems unstoppable and the manufacturer planned to double its production.

Compact SUV Sales

The compact SUV segment is one of the most booming category of cars in India which, as apparent from the sales chart, is skyrocketing by the day. The ranking of the cars in October did not alter too much as compared to the month of September except for one or two cars in the list. The latest entrant in the segment is the Tata Nexon which is the most affordable offering. The result of this is clearly noticed by the demand for the Nexon which does not seem to slow down anywhere.

Maruti has been one of the most trusted brands in India and that is apparent from the sales of the Vitara Brezza. The car which was on top in September with sales of 13,268 units has managed to remain the segment leader by selling 11,684 units. Although it saw a 12 percent downfall in the sales, the ranking did not get affected. Following the Brezza is the Hyundai Creta which, same as in September, stood at the second spot in October by fetching 9248 customers.

The most commendable progress has been observed in the case of Maruti S-Cross which saw as much as a 1331 percent rise in its sales. From 385 to 5510 units being sold, the S-Cross outsold four cars in the segment. Coming to the fourth position, Tata Nexon fetched 3099 customers but that could have gone much higher as the company is not able to fulfil the orders.

Tata Motors still has a backlog of 15,000 units of the Nexon. The compact SUV from Tata is being booked by an average of 350 customers everyday but all they get is three months of waiting period. Despite its plan to churn out 5500-6000 units each month, the Nexon maker is capable of taking the number to 3000 units only. But the problem will be solved soon by overcoming the constraints and doubling the production.

Coming back to the list, the cars which didn’t witness too much variation in sales are the Mahindra TUV300 and Honda BR-V which were bought by 2781 and 1280 customers, respectively. On the other hand, Renault faced disappointment by selling only 919 units of the Duster which is 38 percent less as compared to the previous month. Another car to witness a sudden decline wass the Ford EcoSport which sold only 400 units because the new version was about to be launched. With the facelifted version now here, expect sales to go up again.
