Launched in 2016, Datsun redi-GO became the third product from the Japanese manufacturer to enter India. Offering better quality inside out, the budget hatchback provided much respite to car buyers at a time when the GO range was gaining popularity in the commercial segment. The Nissan sub-brand followed it up with a 1.0-litre engine option last year and now we have an AMT version of the same, the Datsun redi-GO AMT.

Since only the top two variants give you an option to choose the 1.0-litre engine, the AMT unit is also exclusive to these two trim levels. Datsun redi-GO AMT has been priced at Rs. 3.80 lakhs for the T(O) variant (both prices ex-showroom, Mumbai). Carried over from the Renault Kwid, the 5-speed AMT unit commands a premium of around Rs. 20,000 over the 5-speed manual transmission variant.

There are no major changes to the exterior, interior or mechanicals and the car continues to draw power from the 999cc, 3-cylinder, i-SAT engine. Mated to a 5-speed AMT unit, this motor puts out 68 PS of power at 5500 RPM and 91 Nm of torque at 4250 RPM. Thanks to the ultra-light kerb weight of 650 kgs, the redi-GO AMT offers brisk acceleration and comes with a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 22.5 km/litre.

Unlike the Kwid, the redi-GO comes with a proper shift knob with a manual mode. The car is available in five colour options – Silver, Grey, Ruby, Lime and White. With the AMT box now at its disposal, the redi-GO looks forward to attack the likes of Maruti Alto K10 AMT and Renault Kwid AMT.
