Majority of the cars that are retailed in the Indian automotive market are oriented towards the average customers’ needs. Who is the average car buyer in India? An average car buyer in Indian is someone who wants his new vehicle to deliver in four of the most important aspects – practicality, fuel efficiency, after sales service and styling. Therefore, most of the vehicles that are available for sale in India revolve around satisfying the above mentioned aspects. What this does is that it leaves out a big hole for those car buyers who are performance oriented enthusiasts.

Not many driver-centric affordable vehicles are available in the market even today. There are a few manufacturers like Ford, Fiat, Volkswagen, Skoda, etc. (for selling cars that specifically cost below Rs. 15 lakhs), that manufacture vehicles which are meant to be good driving cars.

Talking about Fiat, the Punto Evo is one such vehicle that can bring a wide grin to anyone who drives it. However, the Punto’s heavy weight diminishes the amount of fun that the very capable hatchback can deliver. But thankfully, Fiat is planning to launch the Punto Evo with the famous 1.4-litre T-Jet engine in India which is also found on the Linea. One such test car has been spotted while undergoing engine tests.

The Punto Evo T-Jet that is seen in the spy shots is currently being tested extensively, judging by the large number of sensors that are connected to the central analyser. According to one of the Fiat test engineers, the vehicle is tuned to produce almost 105 BHP of power and 185 Nm of torque at 2200 RPM. The snapped-up vehicle is also supposedly using a different turbocharger than the one which is found on the Linea T-Jet.

The Punto Evo T-Jet will also be equipped with disc brakes on all four wheels. The wheels are larger in size as compared to the standard Punto Evo (are the same 16-inchers seen on the Punto Evo Sport). So friends, let’s keep our hopes high for this hot hatch which is only expected to launch next year.
