Honda is working on a new 200cc platform to increase their market share.

2020 Honda CBF190X Side
We might see something in line with the CBF190X sold in China

Honda currently offers 125cc and 160cc bikes in their entry-level portfolio in India. Now between these bikes and the BigWing motorcycles, there is a huge void left.

The Japanese bike maker doesn’t have any offering around the 200cc segment. This results in 160cc Honda customers upgrade to other brands of bikes like TVS Apache and Bajaj Pulsar.

In a bid to retain their customers and attract a wider audience, Honda is developing a new platform. The company is currently working on a 200cc motorcycle platform that will spawn multiple products.

While the launch timeline is not confirmed, we can expect the first product out of this platform by early 2021. The new 200cc architecture will see a naked bike, faired motorcycle and an adventure motorcycle too.

The new 200cc unit will be an air-cooled engine developing power in the range of 20 BHP and 23 BHP. Honda is likely to come up with a new design language for these motorcycles.

It is possible that we’ll see some inspiration from the CBF190R and CBF190X sold in China. Moreover, Honda recently filed a patent for the CBF190R in India. However, nothing in this regard is confirmed yet.

The Japanese bike maker will introduce a range of new bikes soon in the 160cc, 200cc and 300cc segment.
