Hyundai Elite i20 Test Drive-Review
The Elite i20 gets more convenience thanks to the automatic gearbox

The previous generation Hyundai i20 was available with an automatic transmission, but the automaker didn’t continue it with the Elite i20, until now. With the rising demand for automatic transmission in cars, Hyundai has brought back the convenience of an automatic transmission in the Elite i20. The automatic gearbox is offered with a bigger petrol engine but only on the Magna trim.

The engine is a 1.4-litre dual VTVT petrol unit mated to a 4-speed automatic gearbox which is a torque converter unit. This engine develops 100 PS of power and 132.4 Nm of torque. Fuel efficiency figures of the automatic variant haven’t been revealed yet. Apart from these changes, the Elite i20 continues to come with the same mechanical components as other variants.

Due to the availability of the automatic gearbox only on the Magna trim, many features such as projector lights, DRLs, auto headlamps, front fog lamps, touchscreen infotainment system, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, auto climate control, reverse parking camera and sensors, smart key, height adjustment for driver seat are missing. The car also misses out on ABS.

Hyundai has priced the Elite i20 automatic at Rs. 9.02 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The premium hatchback segment has a lot of options to choose from and the Elite i20 automatic will compete with the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI, Ford Figo DCT, Maruti Baleno CVT and Honda Jazz CVT.
