Hyundai Nexo Type Approval Certificate
Looks like Indians will get to see an FCEV on public roads soon

Looks like the Hyundai Nexo launch will take place soon in India, for the South Korean carmaker has received the type approval from the government to register the fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) in the country.

To be imported from South Korea, the hydrogen-powered car will join the Kona Electric in the brand’s electric vehicle lineup for India.

Measuring 4670 mm long, 1860 mm wide and 1630 mm tall, the FCEV has a wheelbase of 2790 mm and was showcased at the Auto Expo held last year.

The car features a 95kW fuel cell, a tiny battery pack and is powered by a 120 kW (161 HP) electric motor that makes 395 Nm of max torque.

While it can achieve a top speed of 179 km/hr, and do the 0-100 km/hr run in less than 10 seconds, it is the claimed range of 666 km that is mightily impressive.

How does it boast of such a range you ask? Well, its 3 hydrogen tanks have a combined capacity of 156.6 litres, that is why. What’s more, the tanks can be topped up in only 5 minutes.

Sporting a nice design, the Hyundai Nexo comes with the option of 5 exterior colours overseas, while there are 2 interior colours to choose from as well. Also, the FCEV is well equipped and even features the latest suite of driver assistance tech and a remote parking system.

If and when the Hyundai Nexo launch takes place in India, it will become the first FCEV to go on sale here. Of course, it will not be cheap to begin with, for it will be an import.

But, it will provide Hyundai with valuable market insight and might well help kick-start the hydrogen-powered car segment in India. The only drawback is that, there are hardly any hydrogen outlets across the nation, for now.
