The Indian car market shows special interest in hatchbacks and hence, there is a long list of vehicles in this segment. Hatchbacks are the most preferred body style in the Indian market as they are affordable to buy and run. Recently, Hyundai has added another vehicle in this segment i.e, the Grand i10 which is a mid-sized hatchback and is positioned in between the previous generation i10 and the current i20. The Grand i10 is an Indian specific model and has minute differences with the global version. The Grand i10 comes with the all new 1.1-litre diesel engine and the 1.2-litre petrol engine which has been taken from the current i10. This vehicle is priced between Rs. 4.29 lakhs and Rs. 6.41 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The company officials are delighted with the over-whelming response and have decided to increase the production of the Hyundai Grand i10 at their manufacturing facility in Chennai in order to reduce the waiting period which is currently two months for the top end variants; Asta and Sportz, while the base models; Era and Magna have a waiting period of one month. Hyundai has got 13,000 bookings and 1.30 lakh enquiries for the Grand i10. The Korean automaker managed to dispatch 8411 units in September.

The reason for the increase in production may be to attract more number of customers in the upcoming festive season and also to give stiff competition to its rivals. The Grand i10 has generated a lot of interest across the country since its launch last month. Within the first month of launch, the Grand i10 was among the top five highest selling models in September. The reason might be the killer price tag at which it was launched. With the fluidic design philosophy and segment first features, the Grand i10 gives direct competition to cars such as the Ford Figo, Maruti Suzuki Ritz and Honda Brio in the hatchback segment.
