Maruti Suzuki will be exporting the YRA premium hatchback from India to other global markets, which is the first time that the Indian subsidiary will compete with rivals like Volkswagen and Fiat in their home turf.

Suzuki is endowing on its Indian subsidiary, Maruti Suzuki to be able to meet demand of their upcoming global premium hatchback which goes by the codename YRA (iK-2). The YRA hatchback will be exported to Europe and the Asia Pacific region from India to battle with other capable hatchbacks including the Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai i20, Ford Ka (Figo) and the Fiat Punto. This indeed is a great honor for Maruti because India has been chosen over Hungary as the manufacturing hub of the upcoming premium hatchback that is due to make its premier at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015.

The Suzuki YRA will be exported from India to countries like Italy, Germany, UK and even Japan, which alone is expected to garner around 40,000 to 50,000 orders every year in the near future, thereby making it the largest market in terms of volumes overseas. Needs of the European market was earlier met by Maruti Suzuki with the A-Star hatchback which was exported from India. However, this will be the first time that Maruti Suzuki will compete with car majors like Volkswagen and Fiat in their own backyard with the YRA.

For the Indian market, the Maruti YRA will be powered by the 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel engine and a 1.2-litre petrol unit. But for the international markets, Maruti Suzuki will be fitting new engines including a 1.0-litre direct-injection turbocharged BoosterJet engine (codenamed K10C), a 1.2-litre turbocharged engine (codenamed K12C) and finally a 1.4 litre K14M engine as well into the YRA hatchback. It is rumored that 50,000 units of the hatchback will be produced in FY16, with only 10 percent of this being exported. But by FY17, the vehicle will be exported to more countries with total exports crossing the 40 percent mark of the total 1,30,000 units produced by then.
