Deliveries for the Indian Chief Dark Horse will commence in the second half of 2015

Extremely aggressive about its operations in India, Indian Motorcycles has officially launched its newest cruiser the Chief Dark Horse in the country priced at Rs. 22 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Indian launch comes merely a week after the bike was launched in the US as Indian’s new entry-level offering after the Scout. The company has also updated its Indian website with the new Chief Dark Horse and will be commencing deliveries of the cruiser in the second half of the year.

Targeted at younger audiences, the 2016 Indian Chief Dark Horse is based on the Chief Classic but gets stripped of chrome and parts offering a minimalistic and dark appeal. The Chief Dark Horse gets matte-black finished forks, handlebars, engine and bodywork; while the chrome spoked wheels have been replaced with new cast alloys finished in black. Even the infamous warbonnet seen on all Indian bikes has been done up in matte-black to stay true to its name. Keeping the stealth cruiser light, the Chief Dark Horse gets rid of the pillion seat, oil cooler, analog fuel gauge and driving lights.

In terms of powertrain, the Indian Chief Dark Horse comes with the Thunder Stroke 111 air and oil-cooled, 49-degree V-twin engine producing 161 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed transmission. The cruiser also packs in modern safety tech including remote keyfob ignition, electronic cruise control and ABS to keep the rider in control at all times. A relatively affordable offering in the Indian lineup, the Chief Dark Horse will be brought as a CBU and competes with a range of Harleys in the segment. The cruiser is certainly for those that do not believe in too much chrome to make a statement.
