Jaguar has unveiled the C-X17 Sports Crossover concept at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. We have seen the pictures of the chic concept recently, which is very eye catchy. The concept hints at the upcoming first ever crossover/SUV from the Jaguar stable, which is expected to hit production in the near future. The C-X17 concept also comes in a way to introduce the British carmaker’s design study of the advanced aluminium monocoque architecture for their future products. It is a flexible platform to develop a range of new vehicles with different interior packaging.
The Jaguar C-X17 Sports Crossover concept showcases an advanced lightweight and stiff construction that comes with innovative technologies. The carmaker has also announced their first product to be based on this architecture will be a mid-size premium sedan. The all-aluminium sedan will be launched in 2015 competing with the likes of the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes C-Class and Audi A4. The upcoming offering will be powered by a range of petrol and diesel engines to be built at JLR’s new UK manufacturing facility. The company states that the new engines will produce high outputs and low CO2 emissions.
Jaguar has treated the C-X17 concept with a mix of their current design tone which includes the F-Type, XF, etc. and you can also find a unique and sporty stance. The production version will retain similar design but some styling elements will be toned down. The carmaker intends to position the sports crossover as a driver centric vehicle with car-like sporty driving dynamics. The Jaguar C-X17 concept also showcases the interiors with advanced tech including Interactive Surface Console. It is a multi-screen infotainment network that links passengers and the outside world through social media channels.
The Jaguar C-X17 crossover is 4718 mm long and 1649 mm tall. It runs on 23-inch wheels which get graphite and gloss black finish. The interiors feature four bucket seats and the vehicle has a heads-up display projector. Sound duties are taken care by British audio specialist, Meridian. The C-X17 will bring new buyers to the Jaguar brand, those looking for the added flexibility of a crossover. While Land Rover vehicles offer similar benefits, the C-X17 is an all-road machine while Land Rover also offers off-road prowess.
