Kia Carens Clavis Unveiled, Premium Version Of The Regular Carens, Bookings Open From May 9 at 12:01 AM

Kia has unveiled the Carens Clavis, an updated version of the Carens MPV that offers a more premium experience than the outgoing model. The Carens Clavis incorporates new design language, features and a revised interior. The premium MPV will commence booking from May 9 at 12:01 AM.

Exterior Design

The Kia Carens Clavis will be available with 6 engine and transmission options in 7 variants: HTE, HTE (O), HTK, HTK+, HTK+ (O), HTX and HTX+, catering to customers’ diverse demands. At the front, the Clavis gets a “digital tiger face” with thin LED DRLs flowing in a triangular pattern. This is similar to the Kia EV9, which is the flagship EV.

Additionally, there is also a revised front and rear bumper design. It is more angular and there are silver details that give the exterior a premium feel. The silhouette is similar to the regular Carens. There are 17-inch alloy wheels with a thicker LED tailbar at the rear.

There are 8 exterior shades: Ivory Silver Gloss, Pewter Olive, Imperial Blue, Glacier White Pearl, Gravity Grey, Sparkling Silver, Aurora Black Pearl and Clear White.

Interior

The interior is available in the same 6-seat and 7-seat configurations. The designers revised the upholstery and door trims, using lighter colours and materials. The most notable change is the addition of the dual 10.25-inch driver display and infotainment system. The refreshed Kia Seltos showcased this feature prior.

There is a revised AC vents design and redesigned climate controls. The Kia Carens Clavis also gets the flat-bottom steering wheel from the Syros.

Features

The top-spec Carens Clavis HTX+ features a 4-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an 8-speaker Bose sound system and connected car technology that includes remote functions. There is also the availability of a panoramic sunroof and a 360-degree camera.

The Kia Carens Clavis also has an ADAS Level 2 suite. This includes adaptive cruise control with stop and go, front collision assist, lane keep assist and much more.

Engine Options

The Kia Carens Clavis is powered by 3 engine options: 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and 1.5-litre diesel engine. The naturally aspirated petrol engine produces 115 HP and 144 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual.

The turbo petrol engine produces 160 HP and 253 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual, 6-speed iMT, and 7-speed DCT. The diesel engine produces 116 HP and 250 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Outlook

Kia hasn’t revealed the pricing for the Carens Clavis, but considering the outgoing Carens is priced between Rs. 10.60 Lakhs (ex-showroom) and Rs. 19.70 Lakhs (ex-showroom), it will be priced marginally higher. This would mean it would compete with the Maruti XL6, Toyota Innova Crysta and Hycross.
