Spotted on the outskirts of Chennai, the Kia Venga confirms that the Korean brand is planning to enter the Indian market in the coming years.
The Indian car market is predominantly about small cars. Cars under Rs. 10 lakhs are the ones which sell the most. The fight in this segment is really intense with the manufacturers who aren’t taking the market seriously lagging way behind. It is Maruti and Hyundai which cater to the segment in the best possible way with majority of their offerings being in this space.
However, soon we will have another brand competing in this space. And the brand is the sister brand of Hyundai. Yes, we are talking about Kia. Kia has presence in quite a few countries and is majorly known for making small cars. One of these is the Venga which is currently being tested near the Hyundai plant on the outskirts of Chennai.
Kia had expressed its intent to enter the Indian market earlier but said it is waiting for the right time. Considering it has started testing the vehicles in India now, the launch might happen in the next couple of years. The biggest trouble it will face is setting up sales and service network which is the biggest factor which customers look at when buying a new car.
The Kia Venga which was spotted testing comes with four engine options globally. For India, it is expected to get the 1.4-litre petrol engine which produces 89 PS of power and a 1.4-litre diesel engine which also produces 89 PS of power. It will compete with other premium hatchbacks like the Hyundai Elite i20 and Maruti Baleno.
