UT in Mahindra Mojo UT 300 stands for Universal Tourer

After a lot of anticipation, sightings and speculations, we finally have the Mahindra Mojo UT 300 on sale in the country. Bookings for the low-cost Mojo had commenced in January 2018 and the tourer has been priced at Rs. 1.49 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Additionally, there is a discount of Rs. 10,000/- on the price for customers who take deliveries by the end of this month. The Mojo UT 300 will be sold alongside the top-spec Mojo, which has been renamed as the XT 300 where XT stands for Xtreme Tourer.

Taking the Rs. 10,000/- benefit into account, the Mojo UT 300 is a cool Rs. 35,000/- cheaper than the Mojo XT 300. It even undercuts the Bajaj Dominar 400 and KTM Duke 200 by a fair margin. However, considering the effective price would go up from next month, it remains to be seen how the UT 300 fares in the long term. Let us walk you through all the changes this version has incorporated to arrive at a lower asking price.

First up is the front suspension setup which now comprises of conventional telescopic forks as opposed to USD forks of the XT 300. While the instrument console, twin-pod headlight and body panel design remains the same, the UT 300 misses out on the dual exhaust system and DRLs. More economical MRF Nylogrip Zappers now take place of Pirellis seen on the XT 300 and the rear tyre width, at 140-section, is slightly less as well. Other tourer-friendly bits including the riding position and 21-litre fuel tank remain unchanged.

Powering the Mahindra Mojo UT 300 is a familiar 300cc, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled engine mated to a 6-speed gearbox. It makes use of a carburettor instead of fuel injection offered on the XT 300. Peak power and torque figures, at 22.7 BHP and 25.2 Nm respectively, are down by approximately 16% due to this change. In comparison to the Mojo XT 300, the wheelbase is 5 mm shorter and the motorcycle sits 8.5 mm closer to the ground. Braking setup remains the same but ABS is still missing from the equipment list.
