The side curtain airbag software upgrade applies to the Mahindra XUV500 models manufactured on or before July 2014.

2014 Mahindra XUV500 Test Drive Review
The software upgrade will be made free of cost and there is no need for any part replacement

Mahindra has issued a voluntary recall under the SIAM code for its flagship SUV the XUV500 for upgradation of the side curtain airbag software. While the number of units that are part of the recall have not been specified, Mahindra has stated that the upgrade will be made on units manufactured on or before July 2014. Furthermore, the upgrade will be carried out free of cost with no parts to be replaced and the company is currently contacting customers individually.

Launched in 2011, the XUV500 has been a massive success for Mahindra with the demand outrunning supply initially. Even though the company has sold a lakh units of the XVUV500 in the country, only a few thousand units will be affected as only select variants get side airbags on the SUV. The Indian auto giant also stated that the software upgrade is in order with Mahindra’s customer-centric approach. Customers can also visit the company’s website and check if their vehicle is part of the recall in the ‘Service Action’ section.

Post SIAM’s voluntary recall code, several manufacturers have been upfront about issuing recalls time and again. Mahindra too has made several recalls in the past years involving the Scorpio, Xylo as well as the XUV500 for a variety of reasons. Nonetheless, recalls are a sign of improving factory defects that could be dangerous to the life of customers. Coming to the XUV500, the premium SUV is set for a major upgrade this year with revised styling, updated powertrain and improved cabin. More details on the facelift will be available in the following months.
