The Ford-Mahindra Alliance initiated in September last year to meet customer expectations together

Ford and Mahindra have recently come to an agreement to work towards developing SUVs and an electric vehicle in collaboration. This is an initial step to discover areas where the two companies can work together in line with their strategic alliance. This alliance kicked off in September last year.

The first product to come out of this partnership will be a mid-size SUV under Ford’s brand and it is expected to be launched by 2020. Mahindra and Ford have also come to an agreement to share powertrains with each other. Mahindra confirmed that the soon-to-come SUV from Ford will share S201’s petrol engine. The S201 is still under formulation and is set to rival the Tata Nexon and the Vitara Brezza.

While they did not reveal further details, it is expected that the engine will be a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol unit, since it is said to be a small-capacity engine. Mahindra has already confirmed that the S201’s diesel variant will have the same 1.5-litre diesel engine as the Marazzo. But no details have been made available about the petrol variant. There is also a speculation that Mahindra is working on a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine which might be used to power the Marazzo in 2020.
