The Mahindra Scorpio automatic will be available in three variants including the S6+, S8 and S10 and will be locking horns against the upcoming Hyundai Creta automatic in the segment.

Mahindra Scorpio
The Scorpio will continue to use a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel motor with 120 BHP & 280 Nm

You read it first on MotorBeam. Mahindra launched the new generation Scorpio in September last year with a bulk of upgrades, but only with a manual transmission. The automatic variant which was previously available, was always on the cards for the new generation model as well, but the automaker did not share the timeline for the launch of the same. However, these new leaked details indicate that Mahindra is indeed getting ready to launch the Scorpio automatic in the following weeks and has sent the mechanical details of the AT variant to the RTO for registration purposes.

The 2015 Mahindra Scorpio AT will be available in a total of three variants including the S6+, S8 and S10. The S10 variant will get automatic transmission in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The autobox version will be largely the same as the outgoing variants with power coming from a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine with 120 BHP and 280 Nm of torque. The AT unit will be a 6-speed self-shifting hydraulic gearbox. In terms of exterior differences, the earlier spy shots suggested of the ‘Automatic’ badging on the bottom left of the tailgate, while also expect similar badges on the front fenders.

Mahindra is clearly offering a pricing advantage on the new generation Scorpio by offering the automatic on lower variants. The S6+ AT is likely to be priced around Rs. 11.30 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) and will be one of the more affordable automatic SUVs on sale in the country. The Scorpio AT comes at a time when the compact SUV space will be flooded with new launches including the Maruti S-Cross and Hyundai Creta (will also come with a 6-speed AT gearbox on the diesel), both of which are scheduled to go on sale in July. Mahindra is likely to time Scorpio AT’s appearance in the market around the same period as the new models and will surely keep the segment exciting while strengthening its sales further.
