Mahindra REVA today announced a one of a kind rental programme called ‘Goodbye Fuel, Hello Electric’ for the e2o electric car to improve the cost of ownership. The new programme reduces the price of the e2o by a hefty Rs. 1.7 lakhs, as the customer chooses to pay a rental for the battery instead of purchasing the battery itself along with the car. In essence, the initial cost of purchase is reduced to Rs. 4.99 lakhs as opposed to Rs. 6.69 lakhs that the owner would have had to pay earlier. The customer instead chooses to pay a rental of Rs. 2599/- on the lithium ion battery usage for a period of 50,000 kms, considering the owner would drive around 800 kms per month over a period of five years.
The customer is actually choosing to pay the battery cost over easy monthly instalments for five years, reducing the base value of the car and making it affordable. The scheme ensures that the monthly instalment cost does not change over the five years. So at the end of 60 months/5 years, the customer ends up paying Rs. 1.56 lakhs as the battery rental cost. Mahindra says, this will lock in the running cost for five years, and is the best way to beat inflation. The substantial price different of Rs. 1.7 lakhs is available in all major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata.
Even with the battery rental cost, the customer will still have to pay for the electricity consumption charge to its electric supplier, which is considered a fraction of the cost of conventional fuels. The scheme also ensures the performance guarantee of the battery, as the ownership lies with Mahindra REVA. Customers get 24×7 assistance and a courtesy car as well during the battery repair period. Mahindra REVA also launched the Quick2Charge DC fast charging station with the new smart port technology that can charge the e2o completely under 60 minutes.
