The Baleno’s monthly sales have slid to 12,000 units a month from 15,000-16,000 units before.
Toyota and Maruti Suzuki’s partnership translates into both companies sharing products and technology for the long haul. The first product of this amalgamation is the Toyota Glanza, based on the Baleno. As per the recent sales numbers, the launch of the re-badged premium hatchback has declined sales of the Baleno.
Even though both companies claim to not be bothered about the shift in sales, analysts are concerned about the immediate impact on Maruti Suzuki’s sales. Since the Glanza’s introduction, Baleno’s monthly sales have slid to 12,000 units a month from 15,000-16,000 units before.
Maruti, on the other hand, believes that by sharing, the cost of production is reduced and overheads are spread over a large volume. Unfazed by the market behaviour, the companies shall continue to coexist.
