Maruti Jimny production commences, launch next month

Maruti Jimny production starts as first unit rolls out of the Gurugram, Haryana plant. Finally the 5-door Jimny is about to hit the Indian roads after a long wait.

The first unit that rolled out of the production facility is a white coloured range topping trim. Pricing will be announced in early June and the deliveries will commence at the same time.

India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, opened the bookings of the Jimny in January itself when it was first showcased to the public in its 5-door avatar. The company has gathered around 25,000 bookings since then.

The most popular colours are Bluish Black, Kinetic Yellow and Pearl Arctic White. It will be retailed via their premium dealership network Nexa.

Waiting period of the Jimny might extend up to 8 months. 7000 units of the car will be allocated to the domestic market while the rest will be exported to other countries from India.

The Maruti Jimny will be powered by a single 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 105 BHP and 134 Nm of torque. It will be available with 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission options. It will come with 4WD system as standard.

The compact SUV will be offered in two trims – Zeta and Alpha. To compete in the off-road segment with Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
