February and March have also seen reduced production at Maruti plants

To manage the rising levels of inventory, Maruti Suzuki had shut production plants for a day at Manesar and Gurugram on Monday. The company’s manufacturing capacity at the two plants in Gurugram and Manesar in Haryana stands at around 15.5 lakh units per annum.

The employees at these two plants were given a day off on Monday as the facilities faced an issue with the stocking of the cars. However, the company officials have not commented about this incident.

Maruti had previously reduced its production capacity by 10 percent in April this year and that was the third consecutive month that the company had done so. February and March have also seen reduced production this year.

The passenger vehicle sales in India has seen an overall drop of over 17 percent in April. This is the worst monthly fall in nearly eight years. This has been due to the sentiments and the ongoing liquidity crunch faced by the customers that have impacted car sales.
