Maruti Vitara Brezza Not To Be Produced At Toyota Plant
The top automaker will instead assign another model to be produced by Toyota India.
Production of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza will not happen at Toyota’s Bidadi plant, where work is temporarily suspended, as planned earlier.
Maruti said in a regulatory filing that its board has approved to change the model to be manufactured at the Toyota plant, but did not disclose the name of the replacement.
Earlier, allowing production of the Vitara Brezza at Toyota’s Bidadi plant, Maruti’s board also said the timeline would be 2022.
Toyota currently sells the Maruti Vitara Brezza as the Urban Cruiser after making some design changes. It also rebadges the Maruti Baleno and sells it in the market as the Glanza.
The companies have also agreed to expand the scope of their collaboration and under this, Toyota would manufacture models developed by Maruti Suzuki to be sold in India through their respective networks.
Exports of future Maruti models, including those produced by Toyota, to Africa and other markets, are also on the cards.
